WM Services For The Public Sector
Waste Management believes in building strong partnerships by taking a proactive approach to helping communities manage their waste streams. Waste Management representatives work closely with elected officials, staff and community leaders to identify the area's unique environmental issues and tailor programs that are both effective and within budget. Our one-stop service approach, combined with our high level of industry expertise, has made Waste Management the service provider of choice among municipal and regional governments throughout Canada.
Residential Waste Collection
Public entities entrusted with providing citizens
with quality, value-priced waste collection need look no further
than the services of Waste Management.
Waste Management not only operates the nation's
largest fleet of waste collection vehicles - most equipped with
modern automated and semi-automated collection technology - but
its unmatched resources allow it to offer more value-added services
than any other waste management provider, including residential
recycling, bulky item disposal, yard waste collection and many others.
Its modern customer service centres ensure that
collection issues are dealt with quickly and courteously. In addition,
Waste Management partners with communities throughout Canada to
support programs that protect the environment and improve the local
quality of life.
Residential Recycling
Waste Management collects and processes more municipal
solid waste recyclables than any other company in Canada. We do
it through working partnerships with local communities and municipalities.
From collection to processing to marketing, Waste
Management will partner with your community to develop sustainable
recycling programs. While some communities rely on us to handle
marketing in support of municipal collection and processing, we
can handle any or all portions of the recycling process.
In addition to understanding the importance of
a program that is economically feasible, we also understand the
benefit of programs that are easily workable for your residents.
In 2001, Waste Management became the first major solid waste company
to focus on residential single-stream recycling, which allows customers
to mix recyclable paper, plastic and glass in one bin. Residential
single-stream programs have greatly increased the recycling rates,
recovering as much as three times the amount of recyclable materials.
Single-stream is made possible through the use of various mechanized screens and optical sorting technologies used in many of Waste Management's Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) or recycling plants.
Residential Organic Waste Collection
Waste Management currently partners with many communities throughout the United States and Canada to provide green and yard waste services to private homes. This service not only provides homeowners with a convenient way to dispose of grass, leaves, tree limbs and other yard waste, but because most of this organic material is recycled, it also helps divert waste from landfills and can often provide local companies and agricultural operations with an inexpensive source of compost and other fertilizer products.
Transfer Stations
For communities not situated conveniently to landfills,
Waste Management's transfer stations can serve as efficient way
stations between collection points and disposal facilities. At these
transfer stations, waste is consolidated, compacted and loaded into
long-haul trailers for transport to landfills. This process improves
the utilization of collection equipment by minimizing transportation
time and efficiently moving large volumes of waste to our disposal
sites.
Disposal
In addition to owning the country's largest network
of landfills, Waste Management partners with cities and regional
districts to operate publicly owned landfills with the kind of efficiency
and expertise you can only get with an industry leader.
